Hot charcoal dumped from a barbecue sparked massive wildfires. Two of which threatened Helena, the state capitol, prompting several hundred families to evacuate. Over 24,000 acres and 36 homes and buildings had been burned by the second day of the blaze. Nearly 1,000 firefighters arrived to tackle the wildfires, supported by seven helicopters, two water tank-equipped planes, and 30 firetrucks. But four days after the fires began firefighters were still battling a fire that had burned almost 50,000 acres.
