Super Typhoon Chabaʼs winds howled nearly three times faster than an interstate speed limit—a maximum wind speed was recorded at 178 mph. The winds ripped mature trees from the ground and blew entire rooftops from buildings. On the island of Rota, over 200 homes were heavily damaged and 1,000 people were homeless. Power went out across the island. Two people were killed, one of whom was attempting to photograph damage as it unfolded.
