Rhode Island

August 28th, 2011. Numerous powerlines are down across a road
Sunday, August 28, 2011
Hurricane Irene greeted Rhode Island with 77 mph winds and a stiff rain, halting all flights at T.F. Green. Half of Rhode Island was without power. Fearing flooding, several colleges delayed move-in dates for students and urged them to stay off campus. If not for Providenceʼs decision to lower the Fox Point hurricane barrier, the damage could have been much worse.
