An enormous winter storm dumped 25 inches of snow in Boston. In the southern part of the state, accumulation was pegged as deep as 54 inches. Winds as powerful as 92 mph whipped the snow into drifts as high as 15’ and swelled tides from 3’ to 20’ above normal causing major coastal flooding. In all, the storm was responsible for 29 deaths, 10,000 evacuations, and $3.2 billion in damage.
